GERMAN ’BUSES

NOT EQUAL TO BRITISH CAPE TOWN, May S. The superiority of British motor’buses compared with those bought from Germany was revealed to-day in Parliament by Mr. Oswald Pirow, Minister of Railways and Defence. Mr. Pirow stated that one German firm had supplied 44 chassis at a cost of £56,100, and of these 37 had already developed major defects. Five chassis had been purchased from another German firm for £7,200, and fou'r of those had also developed grave defects. On the other hand, said Mr. Pirow 45 vehicles bought in England from ThornycroftS' for from £9OO to £2,075 apiece had developed major defects in only four cases, while of 46 Leyland vehicles, costing from £750 to £1,600 apiece, not one had developed a single defect. —B.U.P.
