CRUELTY TO ANIMALS
MAN & WOMAN IMPRISONED.
LONDON, May 6. For cruelty to five dogs and two cats, Reginald Warman, 32, and his step-daughter, Miss Margaret Marshall, 25, of. Rayleigh-road, Thuudersley, Essex, were sentenced at Southend yesterday to one month’s imprisonment; each.
They were precluded from keeping dogs for the rest of their lives. The charge against them was of causing unnecessary suffering to the animals by omitting to give them care and attentino. It was alleged that defendants locked up their house and left it from Saturday until Wednesday without leaving any food or water within reach of the animals. A police-constable and an R.S.P.C.A. inspector found the animals in a deplorable state. One dog had to bo shot. Afterwards the, bodies of three dogs were exhumed ■ from a newly-dug grave in a garden. It was stated that until recently a, board bearing tho words “Dogs’ holi-j day home” had been exhibited on the' premises. ' Warman stated that he paid a man ( to look after the dogs during his ab-j sence. . ; Sir Frederic Seniei*. chairman ol thei magistrates, said the state of affairs disclosed by cases of cruelty to animals in that district lately had caused great concern to the Bench and a large number of people in tho district.
