Sergeant J. Isbister is to leave on Friday, for Opotiki, on transfer.

To-day is the 43rd birthday anniversary of .the Duke of Windsor.

Mr J. McLeod returned yesterday,, ’rom Dunedin.

The death occurred, at Auckland, yesterday, of Mrs. T. J. Buxton. Mr. Buxton, -who is President of the Auckland Trotting Club, formerly resided on the West Coast.

Miss M. Jones and Mr.. Gebeties were passengers by the service plane from Nelson this morning. The passengers on the return journey were: Messrs. A. J. McDowall and G. Green (to Wellington), Mr. R. Trevor-Smith and Miss Jones (to Nelson).

The death of Miss Bridget Mitchell, daughter of Mrs and the-late. Mr W. Mitchell, of Stafford, took place at the Westland Hospital yesterday. Deceased was bom at Stafford and was 53 years of age. She leaves . her mother, font'sisters : £ (Mrs Heil, ‘of Stafford, Miss K. Mitchell of Wellington, Mother Canice, of th© Convent at Petone. and Sister Patrice, of the Convent at Opotiki), and four brothers, (Thomas, of Whangarei, Edward of Greymouth, William, of Christchurch, and Peter, of Stafford).

The Acting-Prime Ministesr (Hon. P. Fraser) said yesterday that at the caucus a vote of sympathy -with the Minister for Public Works (Hon. R. Semple) in his indisposition was passed. Members present expressed their high appreciation of the Minister’s most capable and efficient administration of the Public Works' and Transport Departments. Hopes for his speedy recovery w'ere expressed by all in attendance. A vote of sympathy with Mrs Parry, the wife of the Hon. W. E. Parry, whose illness necessitated him remaining in Auckland during the caulcus, was also passed. .

A London cablegram announced the death of Sir Eric Geddes, who was born in India in. 1875. He was married in 1900, and there were three sons. Educated at Oxford Military/ College and Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh, deceased worked at lumbering in the Southern States of America, and on'railways in America, India. and England. He became deputy. Director-General of Munitions Supply in 1915-16; Director-General Transportation on staff. of Commander-in-Chief, British Army in France, 1916-17; Director-General of Military Railways and Inspector-General of Trarisporta-’ tion, all theatres of war, 1916-17; M.P. (U) for Cambridge, 1917-22; ■ member of Imperial War Cabinet, 1918; Member of Cabinet, 1919-21; First Lord, of the Admiralty, 1917-18; Minister of Transport, 1919-21; president and chairman, of various associations and companies. Sir Eric'Geddes received the following honours:- —P.C. 1917, G.C.B. 1919, G.B.E. 1917, K.C.B. .1917, Kt. 1916.
