Evans Paddon defeated Alf Burns, the title holder for eleven years, for the sculling championship of Australia, over a three miles’ course on the Richmond River, yesterday. Paddon took the lead from the start by a length. The time was 20 minutes 18 seconds. AMERICA’S CUP. NEW YORK, June 19. The Ranger won the fifth consecutive America’s Cup trial by seven minutes over a course of 28 miles. SWIMMING WELLINGTON, June 20. Eight hardy swimmers lined up on the starting board at the Te Aro baths yesterday morning to compete in the annual Davenport Cup race conducted by early-morning winter swimming enthusiasts. A cold southerly wind was blowing and the temperature of the water was 49 degrees. The race over a distance of 50 yards was won from scratch by S. M. King.
WALKING RECORD STOCKHOLM, June 19. The Swede, John Mikaelson, walked 10,000 metres in 44min 9.65ec., creating a world record. BOWLING. BRISBANE, June 20. The New Zealand bowlers played at Clayfield: Simpson drew 22/22, Chapman lost 20/23, Dee won 21/19, Kempster won 24/14. In a match against Wynnum, Simpson won 19/13, Chapman lost 24/18, Dee lost 17/22.
