DUNEDIN TRAM

BRAKING SYSTEM FAULTY

[per press association.]

DUNEDIN, June T

An examination of tram No. 18, which was involved in a fatal accident at Opoho recently, and which last week developed a fault in the magnetic braking system, disclosed a fault in the wiring connected with the brakes, and no blame for the accident could be attributed to anyone. This statement was made by the chairman of the tramways committee, Mr. W. IV. Batchelor, at a meeting of the City Council to-night. Gratification was expressed by councillors -that the inspection of the car completely exonerated Motorman Chapman, who hud been acquitted on a charge of manuslaughter arising out of the Opoho tram accident.
