ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE CHARGE.

PANAMA, April 17

Captain Alexander McKechan, the Scottish master of the Donaldson Line cargo vessel Parthenia, 'was released on £2OO bail to-day at Panama, following his arrest in the Canal Zone on a charge of attempted homicide. He returned immediately to his ship and took her through the Canal. The Parthenia did. not stop at Christobal at the Atlantic, end of the Cana), but continued on her course towards London. Captain McKechan must appear for trial when his is called, otherwise he will be tried in his absence and, if found guilty, will be considered a fugitive from justice. The chargewas brought by a Panamanian docker named- Carlos Delon, who alleged that he and a Costa Rican docker fell asleep on Captain McKechan’s ship and did not awake till after she sailed. When they awoke Captain McKechan is alleged to have accused them of stowing away, beaten them, and thrown them overboard at a point where they had to swim two miles to the shore. The charge was brought in 19..1, but was lost among the court records, and was only recently found. —British United Press.
