LONDON, June 1. Mr Jordan, upon his return from Geneva, denied the reports' that Mr Eden had blue-pencilled his speech on the Spanish question (cabled on tyfay 29). “It. is true that Mr Eden and myself conferred regarding 1 the speech I was about to make, but neither Mr Eden’s action, nor mine was influenced thereby. We do desire, if practicable, to present similar cases to the League Council.” Mr Jordan, as rapporteur of the Health Committee of the League, was invited to attend a committee meeting in Paris, in October, to which the Health Min’s ters 'of all European nations have been invited. WELLINGTON. June 2. Sentence of six months’ hard labour on each of live charges, two of the sentences to be cumulative, was imposed by the Magistrate, Mr. Mosley, on George Crompton Mansfield, 43, labourer, for obtaining money and goods by valueless cheques. He was described as a particularly bad offender in cases of this sort. WELLINGTON, June 2. The hotel workers’ case is before the Conciliation Council to-day. At the luncheon adjournment some machinery clauses only had been agreed upon. WELLINGTON, June 2. The deadlock over oranges has ended, as the result of negotiations between the Cook Island Department and the Retail Fruiterers. The Government has agreed to reduce the price by 1/- a case. This makes the price from 13/- to 20/- according to count. The amended price has been accepted by the Retail Association and .oranges will now be available to the public- at from four to six a shilling.
