LEAGUE FOOTBALL
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. At the weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the West Coast Rugby League, last evening, there were present: Messrs A. H. MeKane (President), W. Barlow, J. J. Anisy, B. Rathbun, A. Fielding, J. Stokes and R. J. Harrington (Secretary). Apologies .for absence were received from Messrs A. Kyle, W. O’Neill, and B. Ramsay. Arising out of the failure of the Blackball sixth grade team to take part in last Saturday’s tournament, in Greymouth, the Blackball Club wrote outlining the discussion which had taken place with the Headmaster of the Blackball School, on the matter. Mr C. Stationmaster at Greymouth, waited on the Committee relative to the same matter, the discussion on which was taken in committee. One registration, from the Kuraara Club, was accepted. ' The Inangahua Sub-Centre advised that the, excursion to Christchurch on June 25,. would be in the nature of a fibld day, conducted on similar- lines to previous years, teams from Inangahua and West Coast playing Canterbury club. teams.
It was decided that the matter of granting teams permission to travel on the excursion be held over until next week.
The Referees’ Association advised that the proposed meeting at Runanga had been abandoned, in favour of a general meeting on the evening of the first representative match to be played in Greymouth. The Association also- stated 1 that it had; come under its notice that there was a Shortage of referees for last Saturday’s schoolboys’’ tournament. 'The Association, it was pointed out, had not been advised of the tournament, and would be pleased to ensure a full muster of referees on future occasions, if notified. The President said no doubt there was a shortage of referees on Saturday, and unfortunately it had been taken for granted that the Association had been advised. It was' an oversight, and would ,not occur again. The action of the Emergency Committee in approving the transfer of L. Stewart, Pearson, D. and S. Mulqueen from Pirates to Marist, and the reclassifications of D. and S. Mulqueen from senior to junior, was approved. The New Zealand League Council advised that the Council had decided upon the appointment of one selector for the North and South Island teams, and invited nominations for the latter position. It was pointed out that the North v. South Island match would probably be played early in July, owjng to the visit of the Australian team.
It was decided to nominate Mr L. Hunter, Runanga, for the position of South Island selector. x It was decided that the general closing date for reclassifications be June 8, after which all applications must come before the Management Committee, to be dealt with on their merits. The Junior Advisory Board reported that D. McGirr, a Marist third grade player, who had been ordeied off for questioning the referees’ decision, in the Marist-Runanga thud grade game, had been placed on the caution list. An application from the Junior Advisory Board for trophies for- the lower grades seven-a-side tournament, to be held on June 9, was held over until the next meeting. FIXTURES FOR SUNDAY.
