PERSONAL NOTES.

Mr. T. D. Holmes returned yesterday, from Wellington. Miss J. Thompson, Nelson, arrived by this morning’s air service. Mr. A. R. Provan, Timaru, arrived yesterday, to take a position at Greymouth. Mrs. A. V. Oliver returned yesterday from a holiday visit to the North Island. Miss N. P. Fitzgibbon, Nursing Advisor to the Plunket Society Council, Dunedin, will arrive on Tuesday, on a visit to Greymouth. Mr and Mrs Cohen will arrive tomorrow from Marton, and will be the guests of Mrs Ackland, of Winnie Street. Mr. O. P. Davis, of the Employment Division, Department of Labour, Westport, has been transferred to Greymouth. Dr. W. D. Bathgate, Medical Superintendent of the Edinburgh Medical Mission Hospital in Nazareth, arrived to-day by the Wanganella, on a holiday visit to the Dominion. The hospital has seventy beds, and he has been in charge for 17 years. He was born in Dunedin.(stated a Press Assn, message from Wellington). The appointment of Mr. P. J. O’Regan as a Judge of the Supreme Court > from June 1 until October 27 was gazetted last evening. This is a machinery measure authorising his appointment as an Arbitration Court Judge, during Mr. Justice Page’s leave of absence through illness. —Press Assn. Miss A. G. Keddie, retired hospital Matron, was a recipient of the King’s Coronation Medal. Miss Keddie filled the positions of Sister at Timaru Hospital, and Matron of Oamaru, Southland, and Waikato Hospitals. Her war services consisted' of Matron at Trentham, and Oriental Military Hospitals, and Sub-matron of the New Zealand hospital ship, Maheno.

After an association with the Parliament of New Zealand which has extended over 51 years, Mr. F. W. Weston, of Takapuna, will retire from the “Hansard” staff as from the end of July. Mr. Weston’s first connection with Parliament was over half a century ago, when he represented the “Evening Post,” Wellington, in the Press Gallery. Later he was sub-editor on the same newspaper, and in 1902 he joined the Legislative Department.

The death occurred in the Buller Hospital, last evening, of Mr. James McKendry, a native of Kumara, aged 70 years. Deceased had been connected with West Coast fire brigades for the past forty years,' and was a life member of the Association, having, officiated at many district demonstrations. He had been in the employ of the Westport Borough Council for 36 years. He was predeceased by his wife tw 7 o years ago, and is survived by three sons, Frank (Wellington), Leslie (Hector), and Roy (Westport); and one daughter, Mrs. Arnold (Inangahua Junction).
