DUAL COMEDY
CHOICE OF CANNON
BUDAPEST, March 25. A new kind of duelling which may help bring this ludicrous Hungarian custom into still further disrepulte has been proposed by Karl Peyer, Socialist leader here. What he advocates is duelling with cannon. One day Socialist Peyer spoke rather sharply against the alleged pracItices. of a high police officer and was i naturally challenged to a duel. The I criticised official had to defend his [honor. To everybody's surprise. Mr. Peyer accepted. But. being the challenged one, he had the right to choose weapons. And he chose cannon. His seconds said that Mr. Peyer was an artillerist in the World War and so was most skilled in the use of that weapon. He requested his offended antagonist io borrow two big cannons from the army and put them on hill-tops near Budapest. Then the duellists would load them up and on .u given signal blaze away. Nobody seems to know what to do —but it seems this particular duel -will fail to happen.
