Sales: Taranaki Oil 4/-, Taupiri Coal 16/9, British Tobacco .49/6, Broken Hill 80/6, 80/9, South British 93/9. MINING RETURNS. STAFFORD GOLD DREDGE. Stafford Gold ' Dredging, N.L. (N.Z.), shows a het loss of £750 for the.year ended January 31, reducing the "credit balance to £1414. The dredge treated 451,346 cubic yards, and recovered 1 1449 ounces smelted gold. Proceeds were £11,712, resulting in a working, profit of £362. • Working expenditure was 6.04 d a cubic yard, against 6.3 d the previous year. Operations were suspended during August. Later the dredge worked in low values, and then reached a section containing a more solid formation of wash. Actual work here began in February this year, and results have improved since then. The report adds that there is a prospect of a more profitable operation for the period ahead. At January 31, the company had £2146 gold in transit, creditors £l4ll, and bank overdraft £lBO5.
..... , ARAHURA. Arahura Gold Dredging, Ltd. (N.Z.), reports that the plansi and specifications of the dredge, were completed .early this year. Satisfactory progress 15 being made with manufacture of equipment. The dredge will be electrically operated, fitted with 18 cubic feet buckets, capable of digging and treating 400,000 pubic yards monthly, and the design includes the most modern type of gold-saving plant. It is anticipated that the dredge will be ready to begin operations about the middle of next year. The directors add that although it is not anticipated that anv material depreciation in the price of gdld will occur, ample provision has been made. All calculations •have been based on gold valued at ;d£4/16/- sterling or £6 New Zealand an .ounce, which is considered sufficiently conservative to cover any variation in the London price of gold or any variation in the existing exchange rate. _ BIG RIVER GOLD MINES LTD. ’■ Report for the period ending April 27, 1937:—Surface: Snow and rain delayed work on repairs to the mine bins. No. 5 intermediate level: The south drive was advanced 12 feet to 34 feet through reef track carrying small boulders and seams of stone. The north drive was advanced 5 feet t 0.35 feet through disturbed reef track carrying small seams of stone in roof of drive. No. 5 south rise: This was advanced 9 feet to 20 feet 6 inches with 4 feet of good stone showing in north end of rise. Thirty-two and ahalf tons of stone were delivered to the surface bins. NEMONA DREDGE The return from the Nemona dredge is 90oz for 129 hours, 17,150 yards. MAORI GULLY DREDGE The return from the Maori Gully dredge for the week is 53 oz. for 136 hours. KING SOLOMON. INVERCARGILL, April 30. The King. Solomon return for the week was 19oz 17dwt. GILLESPIE’S BEACH DUNEDIN, May 1. Gillespie’s Beach return: 92 ounces fidwt. for 170 hours.
