CATHOLICS SENTENCED. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] (Reed. April 29, 2 p.m.) BERLIN, April 28. Four Roman Catholics were convicted of treason. Father Rossaint, of Dusseldorf, was sentenced to 11 years’ imprisonment, the others to fesser terms. The remaining threee were acquitted. . ■.. , It was a farcical trial, with the decision a foregone conclusion, the resident being hostile throughout. . The President, summing up,. saia. “The welfare of the... people., is /.the supreme law. Anyone who- dares ° touch the outward form of the community of the German people, is guilty of the worst crime.” FOOD RESTRICTIONS. ' (Reed. April 29, 8 a.m.) LONDON; April 28. “The Times’s” Berlin correspondent reports that to conserve food supplies, restaurants, from May 1 will be forbidden to prepare mammoth menus. Table d’hote meals will be limited to three courses, hors d’oeuvres, to ten varieties, stews and steaks ten, and omelettes six, but sausages will be unrestricted. UNIVERSITIES AND POLITICS. LONDON, April 28. Oxford University has withdrawn its acceptance of the invitation from Gettingen University to be represented at. its bi-centenary celebrations. This follows the recent decision by the Vice-Chancellor of the British universities to adopt the same attitude as prompted their abstention from the Heidelberg celebrations last year. This was stated to be reluctance to associate with a university where learning was subjected to political purposes, and' professors were dismissed on political grounds. ZEPPELIN’S TRESPASS. BASLE, April 28. Swiss artillery lired blanks as a warning wjhen the Germian airship Graf Zeppelin flew low over the Swiss frontier. The Zeppelin immediately withdrew' to Germany. The Swiss authorities are protesting to Berlin.
