A PROGRESS REPORT.

WELLINGTON, April 27.

The Acting-Prime' Minister (Hon. P.’ Fraser) announced to-day that donations publicly announced or acknowledged for the King George V. Memorial Fund totalled about £12,000. So far, only the personal canvass by a local body had been carried out in Auckland under the leadership of the Mayor, Mr Ernest Davis.

The. Minister said he was advised to-day that Auckland metropolitan contributions, exclusive of local body donations, totalled £5220. “I am sure that the lead given by Auckland will provide an example for the remainder of New Zealand,” said. Mr Fraser. He also expressed the Government’s deep appreciation of the gift of £l5OO by the Manchester Unity, Independent Order of Oddfellows. He said it was a magnificent gesture in keeping with the wonderful work of friendly societies.

AUCKLAND, April 27.

A contribution of £5OO to the King George V. National Memorial Fund was made by the Auckland Harbour Board.

CHRISTCHURCH CONTRIBUTIONS.

CHRISTCHURCH, April 27

A decision to recommend to the Christchurch City Council that the sum of £lOOO he voted in aid of the King George V. National Memorial Fund was passed at a meeting of the finance committee of the council this afternoon. A contribution of £2OO is to be made by the Christchurch Drainage Board to the King George V. Memorial Fund. The amount of the contribution was briefly discussed at the Board’s meeting this evening. Members expressed the opinion that the Board should make a fitting contribution to the fund, which was to provide lasting benefits to future generations.
