N. AMERICAN FLOODS

WORST FOR 40 YEARS

NEW YORK, April 26.
The worst flood for 40 years caused 6000 to evacuate their: homes in London (Ontario), where the Thames river is> 30 feet above normal and is rising at the rate of six inches an hour. A train en route to* 4 Montreal from Chicago was derailed by a washout at Woodstock (Ontario). The enginedriver and fireman were, killed. Dr. MacDonald, a health officer, was: drowned when the flood waters: swept his motor-car off a bridge as: he was hurrying to the train wreck. Gales and floods lashed Virginia, causing six deaths and great damage to property and crops. Fredericksburg (Virginia) was put in darkness when the swollen Rappahannock river flooded the power plant. The Potomac river is rising afc Washington, and the water is lapping! the seawall of the Lincoln Memorial. There is also a. foot of water round the famous cherry trees.
THOUSANDS HOMELESS

LONDON (Ohio), April 27.
Thousands are fleeing from their homes, and industry is paralysed, by floods which now extend to six western Ontario cities.
A train plunged through an undermined roadbed at Woodstock. Three trainmen were killed. A doctor who was speeding to the wreck was swept away off the bridge. Six thousand are homeless. The loss amounts to five millions.
