NEGRO CO.-OP. COLONY

PREACHER’S SCHEME

[BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.]

NEW YORK, April 26.

It is announced that Fathei’ Divine intends to attempt to convert the entire Ulster County of New York State into a model co-operative community. It would be similar to Mr Upton Sinclair’s proposed “Production for Use” communities in California Father Divine is now operating 25 farming and other enterprises in Ulster County. He hopes that, with finance from the public he will be able to expand the holdings, on which the Angels will work without pay, but with a higher standard of living than that in the Harlem City slums of New York.

Ulster County residents are alarmed and rebelious at the idea. They fear that any further inroads by the Negroes in the County would ruin the hotel and boarding house business of the County.
