LEAGUE FOOTBALL
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The Management Committee of the West Coast Rugby League met last evening, there being present: Messrs. A. 11. McKane (President), W. Barlow, A. Kyle, B. Rathbun, W. O’Neill, J. Stokes, B. Ramsay,. J. Anisy and R. J. Harrington (secretary). The Greymouth Borough Council forwarded particulars of . the allocation of the playing area on the Recreation Ground, among the various codes.
The President said that Mr. Stokes had arranged to meet the representatives of the other codes to discuss the allocation of dates, and the matter would be left in his hands.
An application by the Kumara Club *for the transfer of T. Faith from Ngahere to Kumara, and his reclassification from senior to junior, was granted, subject to the approval of the Ngaliere Club.
The terms of the Greymouth Trotting Club for the use of Victoria Park were discussed in committee, and were accepted, on the motion of Messrs. Barlow- and Stokes. The President said that the ground was now under the control of the League, and under the conditions set down by the Trotting Club the B ground only was to. be used for practice, and both grounds for matches. Because the League had taken the ground and was paying a rental, it was not open for all and sundry to go there and practice, other than League footballers. There must be no repetition of 'incidents where boys were playing League football and some adult came on kicking a football about. There was no objection to whippet racing whenever it was desired, but there would be no gate division. Of course, if the Park was not being used for football, there would be no objection to it being utilised for whippet racing. ■ Mr. J. Leach, secretary of the new-ly-formed Rapahoe Club waited upon the Committee, with die request that affiliation be granted the new club, and approval given to it retaining the same colours as the old club, yellow and black. He said that it was proposed to enter a junior team, and a fixture was desired for next Saturday. A team was available Without encroaching upon Runanga, although the transfer of two old Runanga players was desired:
In reply to the President, Mr. O’Neill said that he had heard no objection from Runanga and the two boys whom Mr. Leach had mentioned, were not playing for Runanga at the present time. It was decided that the affiliation of the Rapahoe Club be accepted and that the suggested colours be approved. The team was granted the use of the representative jerseys for the first game. The secretary said that he had been very disappointed over the insurance scheme. He had written a personal letter to every club, asking them to have the . players’ lists in by Saturday last, but he had not received, a. single reply. He now had 15 names from the Marist Club.
The President said that he thought the Centre should set aside- a certain sum for insurance, and allocate it on a pro rata basis, to subsidise and encourage the scheme. After some discussion as to the best methods of subsidising the scheme,, it was decided that the Centre subsidise to the amount of 2/- all insurance premiums, up to 200, paid to the sec? retary by Friday next, leaving players to find 3/-. SATURDAY FOOTBALL The secretary said that the Kumara Club had advised him that they could not possibly play on Saturdays. They did not have the Saturday half-holiday in Kumara, and four of their players worked in shops. Mr. Stokes said that, as far as he was concerned, they could play on Sunday, provided that the other teams were willing to travel on that day. A discussion on the question of Saturday and Sunday play was held in committee, and at the conclusion, the President moved that, in the light of fresh circumstances, Saturday football be played, where practicable. He pointed out that, in view of previous motions carried, his resolution would have to be carried unanimously. The motion was seconded by Mr. Barlow and was carried unanimously. FIXTURES.
