WINNINGS FROM RACEHORSE

CHRISTCHURCH, April 26.

A maintenance order at the rate of £2 a. week, with costs to complainant, was made against Martin Marcus Friedlander, formerly a hotelkeeper at. Waikari, in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. before Mr F. F. Reid, S.M. Mr A. IT. Cavell, in opening the case lor Mrs Esther Isabella Friedlander, said that Friedlander had gone south to lhe racing meetings around Waikouaiti, with another woman, leaving his wife in the hotel, and had later lived with this woman in Wellington, passing her off as Mrs Friedlander. Mrs Friedlander said that her husband had started living at the rate of £lO to £l5 a week since he bad left her and begun living with the other woman. 'l’he racehorse Convivial had earned him more than Clou last year and this year. He had won money with Convivial after he had been living with the other woman. Witness said that her husband' had refused to pay her anything till he said he could afford it. and he now claimed that he had no money at. all. When she came to straighten out. the affairs of the hotel she found things in tt. bad mess and had to borrow hundreds of pounds to get matters straightened out. Her husband had alleged that she was earning £lO a. week’, but she claimed that it worked out al less than £1 a week. A ma in! (‘nance order for £2 a week was made, with costs to complainant.
