LEAGUE FOOTBALL

THE SEASON’S OPENING The West Coast Rugby League will open the seasan to-morrow with a full programme of championship matches, in the three principal grades. The main al traction at Wingham Park will be the match between Runanga and Pirate seniors. The Runanga team has suffered least of any as far as the loss of star players is concerned and as Pirates are considered a strong combination this year, followers of the game will lie interested to see the outcome of to-morrow’s match. The Nelson Creek senior team will make its first appearance in the Southern Division against Ngahere, at Nelson Creek, and at Blackball, Marist and Blackball seniors will meet. The Marist team contains a. big percentage of new players and will receive a real test in meeting the strong Blackball thirteen. In the junior grade. Pirates will travel to Brunner. Blackball to Kumara and Marist. will play Runanga at Dunollie. The curtain-raiser at Wingham Park will be provided by Runanga and Marist third graders.

TO-MORROW’S TEAMS

Teams for to-morrow are: —

Brunner Juniors v. Pirates, at Taylorville: R. Moth, A. Hogarth, Bernard, Buckman, Lee, Black, Browning, Hartigan, McCormack, Syeb, Hogarth, Kariatiana, Pryor, Warren, Fleming, Bell, Blanche, Barber. Pirate juniors v. Brunner: D. Mulqueen, S. Mulqueen, Lindbom (2), McQuillan, Moore, Gelardie, Barlow, W. Price, J. Wilson, Gallop, Crowe and Watson. ( Kumara. juniors v. Blackball at Kumara: —Sinclair, (2), Rochford, McGrath, Popisch, Featherstone, Goad. McLaughlin, Keating, McGill, McLean, Bell, Henham, Hibbs, De Freatus, Milne. McGill, Teen. BRUNNER CLUB. The annual meeting of the Brunner Rugby’ League Club was held in the Library, Wallsend. 'The balancesheet showed a credit balance of £23 8/10, and was adopted, with a vote of thanks to the officials. The*election of officers resulted: — Patron, Mr R. Fordham (re-elected); president, Dr. E. C. Fitzgerald; vicepresidents: Mrs A. Bernhard, Messrs C. Senior, G. Chapman, G. Truman, J. Kidd, H. McLuskie, E. Hogg, J. Smeaton, and P. Lowe. The following management, committee were reelected: —Messrs R. Hall, R. Buckman, F. Bernard, A. Bernard. Chairman, Mr R. Moth; secretary, Mr E. Duggan; treasurer, Mr K. Creagh; trustees: Messrs C. Senioi- and M. Hall; club captain and manager, Mr R. Hall (re-elected); club coach, Mr M. Graham.

It was decided' to nominaae junior teams for the competition, and that third and sixth grade teams be left over till next meeting, when it is hoped a list of players in both grades will be available.

Mr H. Hunt’s resignation was received with regret. Mr R. Moth moved that a vote of thanks be accorded Mr Hunt for his excellent services to the club. The motion was carried by acclamation.
