LOCAL BODIES MERGER
MINISTER. AND CONFERENCE
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
NAPIER, April 16
The care with which local authorities of the Dominion were considering questions involved in the proposals of the Government for the amalgamation of local bodies was characterised as praiseworthy and thorough by the Minister for Internal Affairs (Hon. W. E. Parry), who arrived at Napier last evening.
The Minister said that at all the conferences held to discuss the proposed legislation to which he had been invited to give an address there had been abundant evidence of the deep, interest, of county councils in the pro-' visions of the bill which Parliament would be asked to deal with next session. “1 think it is a long time.” remarked Mr. Parry, “since 1 had the pleasure of discussing in a spirit of friendliness a subject so important in its scope. All have been quick to ralise that underlying the proposals of lhe bill is the desire to secure the coordination of local government affairs which will be a. lasting benefit to the Dominion.’’
