NATIVE LAND COURT

JUDGE AYSON RECALLED.

WELLINGTON, April 15

Because of a shortage of judges in the Native Land Court, the Government has decided to recall Judge H. F. Ayson, at present Resident Commissioner at Rarotonga, Cook Islands. He will return to New Zealand at the end of June. The Acting Minister for Native Affairs (the Hon. F. Langstone) said today that Judge Ayson would be succeeded by Mr. S. J. Smith, secretary for the Cook Islands. "For the time being,” added the Minister. “Mr. Smith’s duties in the Cook Island Department will be carried out by Mr. A. B. Moss, acting Secretary for External Affairs during the absence from New Zealand of Mr. C. A. Berendsen, Permanent Head of the Prime Minister’s Department.”
