WARDEN’S COURT SITTING [OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] REEFTON, April 8. Mr. Raymond Ferner presided at a sitting of the Warden’s Court held at Reefton to-day. The following applications were heard: — Mount David Sluicing Coy. Ltd., for a branch water race and also for an extension of time for hearing of an application.—Application for extension of .time recommended for two years. Consolidated Gold Fields of N.Z, for a road license. —Granted. Cumberland Prospecting Coy. Ltd., for a special quartz claim. —Granted. Murray Creek Consolidated for two ordinary prospecting licenses. —Withdrawn. W. J. Morris for postponement of due date of payment of coal royalties and rents on leases. —Recommended for Minister’s consent. David Absalom for an ordinary prospecting license. —Recommended for Minister’s consent. A. H. Appleton for leave to surrender a residence site license. —Granted. F. C. Elliot for an ordinary prospecting license. —Recommended for Minister’s consent. R. F. Woodbury for a residence site license. —Recommended to Minister for consent. D. Q. O’Brien for consent to transfer to McClatchie and Coy. interest in coal leases. —Recommended. J. M. Gray for consent to transfer to F. W. Archer interest in coal leases. —Recommended. MAGISTRATE’S COURT At the Magistrate’s Court, Reefton, Mr. R. Ferner S.M. presided. A. B. Archer as traffic inspector, proceeded against Wakefield Transport Coy. Ltd., who were charged with operating a. heavy motor vehicle the load of which extended more than the prescribed distance beyond the rear wheels. Defendants pleaded guilty and were fined £l, with Court costs 10/-. The Traffic Inspector proceeded against the Gibbs Transport Cov. on two charges under the Motor Vehicle Regulations, with operating a heavy motor vehicle without having proper classification plates affixed, and also with operating a heavy motor vehicle without being the holders of a heavy traffic license for same. —Defendants pleaded not guilty, but were convicted on both charges and ordered to pay Court costs. C. H. Hoskin as Inspector of Factories. proceeded against Millers, Hokitika, Ltd., on two offences under the Shops and Offices Act 1932. Defendants who pleaded guilty, were charged with employing two assistants on the statutory half holiday after the hour of noon.—Defendants were convicted on both charges with out penalty but were ordered to pay! costs 10/- on one charge and on the second charge they were ordered toJ pav witnesses’ expenses totalling £1 13/4.
GENERAL. Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Watson left, this morning, for Wellington enroute for London, where they will spend an extended holiday, visiting their son Aubrey, who is stationed in London. Mr. .1. B. Auld presided at the monthly meeting of the council of the Reefton School of Mines. Apologies were received from Messrs J. Noble, A. Saunders and J. W. Patterson. Correspondence was received from the Minister of Mines stating that the expenditure on the new class room had been approved. The Under-Secretary of Mines advised the granting of
' funds for the purchase of theodolite i text books and microscopes. The Di- ' rector reported that classes at Reefton, Blackball, Wallsend and Waiuta were being held, the total attendance being j 44. For the month the following 'analytical work was carried out: — Gold and silver assays 48, bullion assays 1, sulphur analysis 1, iron analysis 1, total 159. One sample of gold was smelted and one mineral determination made. It was resolved that
salaries be paid bi-monthly, and that the various companies interested he asked for donations to the work of the school.
