FIREMAN STABBED
AFFRAY ON SHIP [per press association.] DUNEDIN, April 9. A stabbing affray took place about 9.30 this morning, on the motor vessel Olivebank, at present discharging phosphate at Ravensbourne. As a result, an Indian Mahommedan fireman, Jabadalee. 42, was admitted to hospital with a serious knife wound in the stomach. His alleged' assailant was an Indian donkeyman, Jumshereallee, aged about 35. It is stated that some personal dispute arose when the men were working in front of the boiler in the engineroom. The Olivebank’s crew consists of 14 Europeans, 17 Malays, and 18 Indians. The injured man was operated on immediately. The injured man was the serang of the engine-room. It is stated that the alleged assailant states the injured man owed him money, and asked for more, attacking him with an iron bar on refusal. He was defending himself with a jack-knife. After the stabbing, he was taken before the captaif., and handcuffed, being later handed to the police. The condition of the injured man is satisfactory, after the operation. The wound is two and a-hair >.ncnes long, and the knife just touched tne liver. Both men are natives of Serat, near Calcutta.
