RETICENT ABOUT TESTS ALLEN’S FINAL TOUR [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] ’ , WELLINGTON, March 17. G. 0. B. Allen, captain of the M.C.C. team, which arrived from Australia today by the Wanganella, to play a series of matches in the Dominion, is convinced that he will never again visit Australia as a member of an, English team in search of the “Ashes. Asked what was the significance of tho remark, he was reported to have made, that the final Test would be his last on the Melbourne Cricket Ground, he replied that it was quite obvious he would never come to Australia again. “It is quite apparent that I could not stand another tour, and probably I am not good enough.” Both Allen and the manager, Captain Howard, were very reticent about Test matches and cricket generally, as between Australia and England, the former remarking, fhat the team was looking forward to some "nice, pleasant cricket, free from anxiety.” Neither would express an opinion regarding the. playing of Tests’ to a finish. Captain Howard said that the Australian tour had been very .enjoyable, and splendid hospitality was extended to the team. The team leaves to-night for Christchurch, for the first match of the New Zealand tour, against a combined Otago—Canterbury team, commencing on Friday., • - GOVERNMENT RECEPTION. ’ WELLINGTON, March 17.A Government reception was tendered to the M.C.C. team at Parliament House, to-day, Hon. P. Fraser (Minister of Education) welcoming the visitors, on behalf - of the Prime Minister, who was unable to be present, and paying a tribute to their sportsmanship in defeat, in Australia. The New Zealand Cricket Council’s welcome was extended by Mr. A. Sim (president). Allen, replying, said that the Australian tour had been pleasant, but the team was disappointed about the Tests. After the third Test, nothing seemed to go right for them. He wished the New Zealand teain success during its English tour, expressing the opinion that they would do well. SELECTORS RE-APPOINTED LONDON, March 16. The England Test selectors have reelected Warner (Chairman) Perrir and Higson—all acting for one year.
