REEFTON NOTES
[our own correspondent.] Playing at Reefton on Sunday, four rinks of bowlers representing the Westport Bowling Club, were defeated by Reefton, the scoring being Reefton 113, Westport 107. The games resulted as follow, with the visiting players being mentioned first: — O’Leary, McMillan, Comerford, Knight (skip) 23, v. Collins, McMillan, Nevin, Auld (skip) 30. Jones, Brewer, Wilson, Head (skip) 28 v. Blackmore, Miller, Willis, Buist (skip) 28. Fox, Fletcher, Mara, Sara (skip) 27 v. C. Blackmore, Clark, Cleaver, Hodgins (skip) 25. Morley, T. Brown, Blaxall, J. Brown (skip) 29 v. Fennell, Dellaca. Noble, Mori (skip) 30. The .visitors were welcomed to the Club by Mi-. Buist (president), and Mr. HAAti thanked the Reefton players for the hospitality extended to the Westport ream. Mr. Walter Flintoff is visiting Reefton, after an absence of some years. Mr. Jack Hughes, of the Westport P. and T. Office, is spending annual leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hughes, Reeftou. The following officers were elected for tho vear at the annual meeting of the Reef ton Golf Club: President, Mr. W. J. Humphries; vice-president, Mr. J. B. Auld; club captain, Mr. R. I Yellowees, vice-captain, Mr. W. Gore
Porter, secretary and treasurer, Mr. Hayes, auditor, Mr. Kane; committee, Messrs. McKenzie, Prisk, Blackmore, Hubbard, Lee, and Miss King. The opening day was fixed for April 17. Reefton experienced the first Saturday half-holiday this week-end. On Saturday morning the street was full of shoppers, and on the Friday night late night most" retailers report fair trading. A welcome was extended to Mr. Manson, travelling secretary to the Presbyterian Young Men’s Bible Class movement, at a tea held at Knox Church school-room on Sunday afternoon. Mr. Manson conducted the
evening service at Knox Church. Mr. William Northey, -whose sudden death took place at Christchurch on Friday, was a former well-known resident of Waiuta, where he was a member of the staff of Blackwater Mines for 14 years. Mr. Northey was 67. and first came to the West Coast 35 years ago. from Otago. He worked at. the Globe Mine, and was known in Reefton. Of latter years, he was compelled to cease active work, and for some time prior to his death resided in Christchurch. He was single. The Reefton Tennis Club are busy with preparations for their Easter tourney, and a successful function is 1 expected. I
