Karu is loading timber for Miramar, Wellington and Petone, and is to sail early. She returns about March 25, to again load timber for Miramar, Wellington and Petone. Kiwitea arrived! yesterday morning from Westport, to complete loading for Auckland' and: Portland. Karepo arrived! last evening, from Napier, and is loading for Wellington. Rata was to leave Nelson at 2 o’clock this afternoon, for Greymouth, and. is due at noon to-morrow, to load coal for Tarakohe and New Plymouth. Hokitika, is expected to leave. Wellington to-morrow evening, with cargo for Gi’eymoutli and Hokitika. Titoki leaves Nelson on Wednesday, for Westport and Greymouth, and is. due on Friday, to load coal for Wanganui. Kaimai is due on March 23, from Wellington, to load for return. Gael is scheduled to leave Hokitika on Thursday for Bruce Bay and again to leave Hokitika on March 22, for Okuru.
Kalingo is expected to load cargo at Newcastle about March 25, completing at Sydney and Eden, for Picton, Wanganui, Greymouth, in that order. Omana is expected to leave Westport at 10 o’clock to-night for Bruce Bay, and loads there to-morrow afternoon, for Melbourne. NEW MOTOR-SHIP. CHRISTCHURCH, March 13. Built specially for the timber trade around New Zealand, the Port Tauranga, a new motor-ship, .will arrive in Lyttelton on' Monday after hei’ maiden voyage from London. She is 'olj 'l5OO tons deadweight, and was built in the Leith yards. She is a neat, trim craft, resembling an oiltanker. the bridge, engines and funnels being in the same position as on the bigger craft. The officers’ quarters are in the poop, and the hold is amidships, while the crew’s quarters are in the forecastle. TRAWLER STILL AGROUND. GISBORNE, March 13. The surf at. Waikanae beach improved sufficiently this morning to enable a start to be made with efforts to refloat the trawler Marion, which stranded on Thursday night. The vessel moved further up the beach during last night, but this morning a wire hawser was taken ashore, and it was hoped to refloat the vessel during high tide in the evening. The attempt, which was made by means of a cable from a kedge anchor and winch on the trawler, failed, al‘hough the vessel’s head was shifted 25 feet. She lies broadside on to the sea. Scoops were worked to-day, clearing the sand between the vessel and the sea. Another attempt will be made in the evening.
