BRUNNER NOTES
[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Brunner Miners and Combined Schools’ picnic took place at Cass Square, Hokitika, on Saturday. The weather was gloriously fine, and 420 were conveyed by train. The Brunner Band, under the baton of Miss Watson, was in attendance and rendered several item's during the trip, and on the Square in the afternoon. Two pipers from the Kokiri district also did their bit to enliven things, and their efforts were much appreciated. Mr. F. Slater (secretary) and his committee should feel gratified with the smooth manner in which everything went. A sports programme was drawn up for the afternoon and there was no shortage of competitors. A meeting of St. John’s First Aid Class was held in the Library, Wallsend, Mr. J. McNeish presiding. Mr. J. Coutts was appointed secretary. A number of new members were enrolled. The class will be held every Tuesday evening in the Library, and Mr. J. Coutts will read the lectures. The following members were enrolled: Messrs. J. McNeish, James Coutts, G. Port eons, A. Hoggarth, W. Lee, A. Carson, A. Gibb, A. Coutts, N. Croad, C. McMasters, W. Coates, R. Moth. J. Bateman, C. Reid. Wallsend and Dobson mines both worked full time, in the past fortnight.
The whist drive hold in Taylorville School on Saturday evening, was won by Mrs. E. Dando, with Mr. W. Richards second, and Mr. A. Graham third. .
