DISPUTE SETTLED
AUCKLAND CHEMICAL WORKERS [PER press association.] AUCKLAND. March 14. The deadlock in the chemical manure industry in the Auckland district was settled to-day, after the works had been idle for several days.
The employers operating the three works affected by the dispute made an amended wages offer at a special Conciliation Council fitting on Friday evening. After a sitting lasting until 10 o’clock, the employers conceded two rises on their former offers. . Workers who unload sulphur, and “bank” men were offered bonuses which would bring' the rates of pay up to 2/6 an hour, For day work the employers made no alteration to their previous offer of 2/3. Offers of 2/4:, for chamber men and 2/4 for continuous and extra shift workers also remained unaltered. After consideration of the employ-, ers’ suggested increases in pay, the workers resolved to-night to resume! work on Monday morning. Three hundred men met to discuss the schedule of wages offered. After nearly two hours, it was announced that, the men had accepted the terms for a period of 12 months. The following wages will now be paid, the previous scale being shown in parenthesis: — Day workers, 2/3 (2/0J): chamber men, 2/41 (2/2 2-sd); shift, workers. 2/4 (2/2 2-5); men unloading sulphur, 2/6 (2/4 I; "bank’’, men, 2/6 (2/Oi'd); men working phosphate rock, 2/41 (2/0:7); men working super slag, 2/4 j (2/O:7d).
AR grades work on a 40-hour week, basis, and the figures shown above are| tho hourly rates, in each instance. CLERICAL WORKERS’ AWARD. DUNEDIN. March J 3. Tim Otago Clerical Workers’ Award has been announced by the Arbitration Court. It provides for a wage for adult males rising at the seventh year to .£5/5/-, and for the adult female workers at the fifth year to £2/15/-. Law and accountancy clerks are excluded, but employees of stock and station agents are included.
