Mr W. Fletcher returned yesterday, from Christchurch.

Miss G. Farringdon-Lane will leave, to-morrow, for Auckland, where she has accepted a position.

The funeral of Mrs Mary Ann Watt took place at the Karoro Cemetery, this morning. The service at the graveside was conducted by Adjutant Knight.

Commissioner D. J> Ciiijihiings arrived yesterday, on his first official visit to Greymouth since his appointment. as Commissioner of Police. He is engaged on an inspection of West Coast police stations.

Sir James Allen (Dunedin),'who is a Grand Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George, has received advice from Sir Frank Swettenham, King of Arms, that a mecurial gilt plate bearing his name has noW been affixed in the St. Michael and St. George Chapel in St. Paul’s Cathedral, London.

The death occurred at Christchurch, this morning, of Miss Minnie Dunn, who, a few years ago, was infant mistress at Blaketown School. She wgs a native of Pleasant Point, and at the time of her death was teaching at the Fcndalton School. She spent a few weeks of the last school vacation ■with friends in Greymouth.

The death was announced by a London cablegram of Mr W. Graham Browne, the actor, and husband of Marie Tempest, who said that she would play last night, as it was her husband’s last wish. Mr Browne died from double pneumonia. became ill on March 3. Both, on the previous evening, were received by Queen Mary, during an interval of the play.

Mr N. G. Marsh, w'ho has resigned from, the staff of Messrs Keating’s Store, was met by the staff and presented with a bedroom clock. The presentation wasl made by Mr W. Dove. He also received a cheque from the management in appreciation of his services. Mr Marsh is to enter business on his own account at Cheviot.

The Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) is at present visiting Otago in continuation of his tour in the interests of local body reform. Yesterday he placed before representatives of the Bruce, Clutha, and Tuapeka County Councils a plan for the amalgamation of these three counties based on the administration of the Hawke’s Bay and Southland counties, two of the largest counties in the Dominion. The Minister spent the night in Dunedin, and will leave for Oamarh this morning.—Press Assn. r ’ '■

Mrs R. A. Stewart will leave, tomorrow, for England, to attend the Coronation celebrations, at the conclusion of which she will proceed to the Gold Coast,\ Africa, to join her husband, who is mine superintendent of the Ashanti Goldfields. Mrs Stewart is well known in the Women’s Institute, being a past president, secretary and press correspondent of the West Coast Federation, and was recently awarded an honours badge in appreciation of her services. She was farewelled by a number of friends, last evening, at the residence of Mr and Mrs A. H. McKane, Cobden.
