A good story (whether apocryphal or not) is being told in Central Otago at the expense of the Minister of Public AVorks, Hon. R. Semple on the road between Makorora and Pembroke, an axle of the Minister’s car broke. After being towed into a garage, instructions were given, for the job to be proceeded with as expeditiously as possible. “All right,” replied the garage man. “My men have all completed their 40 hours this week. Just leave the car here till S o’clock on Monday morning and then wo will get right on to it.” The sequel, which can be well imagined, was described by some of the observers as a case of the biter bitten.
