SWIMMING. - [BY CABLfi—PRESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] \ SYDNEY, February 28. ' In a swimming carnival, at Manly on Saturday, the American swimmer, J. Medica, wqn the mile championship of New South Wales in 21’min. 41sec. N. Ryan, 22min 3sec, was secondhand M. Geering. 23min. 22sec, third. The young champion, R. Newbiggen, broke the State junior record for the 440 yards by 13 2-ssec., his time being smin. 6sec. At the women’s carnival at Coogee, the Olympic representative, Miss Patt Norton, won the 100 yards freestyle championship of New South Wales in the easiest manner in 64 3-ssec.

WRESTLING. SYDNEY, February 28. Wrestling at Leichhardt Stadium, Lofty, Blomfield defeated Glen. Wade by two falls 'to one. HOCKEY TOKIO, February 28. The Hockey Association has received the New Zealand proposals that, Japan should invite a New Zealand team to play in Japan in .the coming season. The members of the association said that the idea was welcome, and consequently they were inclined to abandon the scheduled visit of a Japanese team to Singapore. They .were doubtful, however, if there would be sufficient funds to pay the New Zealand team’s expenses.

YACHTING Another poor wind yesterdaj’ had competitors in the Greymouth Regatta Club’s race for the W. Roberts trophy in trouble, and three retired owing to fouls. For the third time in succession, the lanthe was successful, running away from the other seven starters. The poor wind, combined with a strong ebb-tide slowed down the boats considerably. In the final of the West Coast Bowling Centre’s champion of champions rinks competitions, played on the GreyniQiith Club’s green on Saturday afternoon, Hokitika defeated Runanga, 21/15. In the first round of the pairs competition, Hokitika defeated Runanga. Hokitika will play Greymouth in the final on the Greymouth green on Saturday next.
