[PEE #BEBB ASSOCIATION.] PAINTER’S BURNS. NAPIER, February 26. A painter, W. Dorward, of Hastings, was admitted to hospital suffering from burns, shock, and other injuries, brought about, it is believed, by having come in contact with power lines while painting a house. He was found dazed and it is assumed that he came in contact with power lines while painting a roof.
BIGAMY AND ASSAULT NEW PLYMOUTH, February 26. William Joseph Fox, who admitted bigamy, and was found guilty of aggravated assault on. two police officers, was to-day sentenced to two years’ imprisonment with hard labour, and two years’ reformative detention.* He had been acquitted on a charge of attempting to murder Detective P. Kearney. HORTICULTURE WELLINGTON, February 26. The Loder Challenge Cup, which is awarded annually by the Loder Cup Committee for any service deemed to be most meritorious in furthering the wishes of the donor —that is, to en-_ courage the protection and cultivation of the incomparable flora of the Dominion—has been awarded for 1936 to John Scott Thomson and George Simpson (jointly), both of Dunedin. The New Zealand Horticultural Trades Association and New Zealand Institute of Horticulture will now hold their annual conferences at Wellington on March 10 and 11.
HOSPITAL AND DOCTOR. NAPIER, February 26. A fresh development in the controversy which has marked recent meetings of the Hawke’s. Bay Hospital Board occurred at a special meeting this evening called for the express purpose of terminating the period -of office of Dr. J. Allan Berry as member of the honorary surgical staff of the Napier Hospital. After a lively discussion a vote\ was taken on a motion moved by the chairman, Mr C. Lassen, seeking to relieve Dr. Berry of his office. Seven members voted for and two against the motion. The chairman, saying that he was not satisfied that the requisite four-fifths majority had voted in favour of the motion, declared the motion lost, but mentioned that a legal opinion would be obtained before the next Board meeting as to whether the number of votes recorded for the motion was sufficient to cause it to be passed.
