BANK ROBBER CAPTURED [BY CABLE —PBESS ABSN. —COPYBIGHT.] NEW YORK, February 25. At Armonk, New York, Merle Vandenbush, a former convict and bank robber, whom the former President, Mr. Herbert Hoover, dubbed “Public rat No. 1,” and two confederates, were captured a few minutes after they had robbed a nearby bank and escaped with 17,600 dqllars. : Vandenbush had been widely sought by Federal agents for the recent kidnapping of a New Jersey trooper. He was ignominiously trapped in the baggage compartment of a motor-car. The three village policemen who had taken him into custody were, at first unfamiliar with his identity.
