YACHTING. The Greymouth Regatta Club sailed the second race of the Haines Trophy series on the Grey River yesterday afternoon. There was only a slight breeze, and as a result some of the yachts were almost becalmed. As a result of this one of the competitors, Mystic fouled the Bounty and retired from the race, leaving only five competitors. The result was the same as in the previous race for the trophy, lanthe winning from Awatea, which sailed a good race, and Vagabond. The result, with corrected times, was as follow: lanthe (W. Messenger, G, Messenger, Webber), (smin.) Ihr. 16min. 25secs. 1; Awatea (Brennan and McGirr) (lOmin.) xiir. 23min. 25secs„ 2; Vagabond (N. Messenger and Dixon), (9min), lhr. 31min. 2se.cs, 3. CYCLE ROAD RACE. There were eight competitors in the cycle road race yesterday morning, from Karoro to Teremakau and return, and the limit division shared the placings, R. Watson prevailing in the sprint home from A. Bennett and J. Taylor. Conditions were favourable for the race, which was done in good time. The detailed result was as follow: R. Watson (2.20) 1; A. Bennett (2.20) 2; J. Taylor (2.40) 3. Also competed: D. Morland, P. Duffy (scr), D. Clarke (45secs), J. Archer (Imin.), M. Malone (2.20). Won by a length, the same. Winner’s time 38min. 40sec. Fastest time was gained by D. Clarke, 38min. lOsecs.
AXEMEN’S HANDICAPS. Mr J. Flaherty has declared the following handicaps for the 14in underhand chop at the Greymouth A. and P. Show next Saturday:—J. Gibson, N. Gillman, W. Kennedy, J. Kelly, E. BOWLING. The final of the rinks competition of the Greymouth Bowling Club, was played on Saturday afternoon, Whibley’s rink defeating Mercer’s. The scores were: — Leitch, McCorkindale, Moss, Whibley (s) 25, Robertson, Sharp, Sharp, Mercer (s) 22. A semi-final of the pairs competition was also played on Saturday, Leitch and Whibley 20, defeating Steel and Kilgour IS, The final will be played between Leitch and Whibley, and McCorkindale and Moss.
