A cablegram from Apia stated that the acting-Administrator of Samoa, Mr A. C. Turnhull, and Mrs" Turnbull and their daughter are passengers on the Maui Pomare.

Dr. H. C. Barrett, Medical Superintendent of the Grey Hospital, will leave to-morrow for Christchurch, on annual leave. Dr. J. McPherson, of Waimato, arrived yesterday to relieve *■ him.

A Palmerston North telegram. announced the death of Mr Henry Bradbridge Tucker, aged 79, owner and licensee for 37 years of Tucker’s Chill) Hotel. His continuity of license for the same house for this period was claimed to be a world’s record in the hotel: business.

A Canberra cablegram stated that the Postpiaster-General, Senator McLachlan, leaves Sydney at the weekend for New Zealand, to represent the Commonwealth Government at the annual congress of the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science.
