LONDON, November 26. The Preston by-election caused by the appointment of Mr. W. M. Kirkpatrick as a representative on the Exports Credits Department in China, resulted: — Captain E. C. Cobb (Conservative) -.. •• F. G. Bowles (Labour) .. 30,970 Miss F. White (Independent) 3,221 Majority for Cobb, 1605. Miss White supported spinsters’ pensions. At the 1935 elections the poll for the two seats in the Preston constituency resulted: —A. C. Moreing (C.) 37,219, W. M. Kirkpatrick (C.) 36,797, Dr. R. A. Lyster (Lab.) 32,225, R.' L. Reiss (Lab.), 31,827. SIR W. JOWETT (Recd. November 27 2 a.m.) LONDON, November 26. The “News-Chronicle” reports that the National Labour executive is readmitting Sir W. Jowett, who was expelled in 1932 for supporting Mr. MacDonald.
