ANGLO-EGYPTIAN TREATY
IMPORTANCE OF SUEZ.

LONDON, November 27.
Commending the Anglo-Egyptian Treaty, “The Times” notes that the provisions recognise the Suez Canal as an essential means of Empire communication, and give Britain the assurance that this vital link will be protected by a permanent alliance, while Australia and New Zealand statesmen have shown they fully realise the value of the assurance in ensuring the communications which mean so much to them. ,
land, Earl Plymouth said: “I think it is general knowledge there is a considerbale number of Italians on the Island. The Government has received assurances from Italy of the absence of any intentions regarding the Balearic Islands.
. Lord Cecil asked if the Government would consider publishing the exact terms of the assurance.
Earl Plymouth replied in the affirmative, and concluded regretting there was little basis at present for reconciliation between the Spanish combatants, therefore the Government did not. consider the moment opportune for the offer of mediation, but will lose no'timo to make its contribution towards peace, if the opportunity did arise.

The Prime Minister, replying to charges that Canadian planes were sold to Spanish loyalists through Mexico, states the Company is filling orders which were placed by Mexico before the outbreak of hostilities in Spain.
