A London cablegram stated that the late Harry Bellingham Howard Smith, left an estate in England and Australia valued at £1,077,012.
Mr C. T. Andrew, Inspector of Offices, Department of Agriculture, will arrive this afternoon, from Christchurch. .
The funeral of the late John Fergtison took place yesterday afternoon, at Karoro Cemetery.' The service at the graveside was conducted by Archdeacon <l. A. Jerymri.’

The wedding took place this morning, at Holy Trinity Church, of Clara Beatrice, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Sheppard, of Greymouth, and Henry George Williams, of Greymouth, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. Williams, of Landing. Archdeacon J. A. Jermyn officiated. Miss H. A. Sheppard, of Otira, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid, and Mr. G. T. McAlister was best man. The reception was held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. R. Parmenter, Karoro. Mr. and Mrs. Williams left by the express, for Christchurch.
A former president of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors, Mr. Preston Chambers, of Epsom avenue,’ died suddenly at Helensville at the age of 82 .years. He was born in the Hunter river district, New South • Wales. While he was on a visit to New Zealand in 1893, the Hon. G. F. Richardson, then Minister for Lands, induced him to remain in the Dominion, and for seven years he was engaged on reading West Coast settlement reserves. From then until he retired in 1923, Mr. Chambers continued in private practice—Press Assn.
The death occurred’ last evening at Dunedin of Mr. John MacGregor, aged 86. He entered into partnership in 1878 with Mr. Peter Duncan, forming 1 the legal firm of Duncan and MaqGregor. Mr. MacGregor was appointed to the Legislative Council in 1892, and was again appointed to the Upper House in 1914, being a member continuously till 1935. Mr. MacGregor who married in 1877 Miss Jessie Stout, a daughter of Mr. Thomas Stout, of Lerwick, Shetland, was educated at the University of Edinburgh. He arrived in New Zealand in 1875, and was admitted to the bar in 1876. He was a member, and for some time chairman of the Otago Education Board. He was the author of numerous articles on education and on political subjects, law and labour; brochures on the marriage and divorce laws, and on industrial conciliation and arbitration—Press-Assn.
