The directors of the Westport Coal Company, Ltd., in their annual report, state that the profit for the year, after provision for bad and doubtful debts, depreciation, and all charges, amounted to £24,235/2/1, to which must be added £11,138/5/3, brought forward from last year, making a total of £35,373/7/4. Interim dividend of 6d a share was paid for the half-year ended March 31, which amounted to £11,258. Out of the balance of £24,123/7/4, the directors propose to pay a dividend of 6d a share and to carry forward £12,873 7/4. The report adds that the mines and plant have been maintained in the usual state of efficiency during the year.

KING SOLOMON. INVERCARGILL, November 13. The return at King Solomon mine this week was 250 z 6dwt. ARGO DREDGE Argo dredge return was 76 ounces for 132 hours, 15,000 yards. MAORI GULLY. The Maori Gully dredge return this week is reported at 29 ounces for 133 hours. BIG RIVER GOLD MINES. Report for the week ending November 9: —No. 4 level: South stopes—The last stope has been filled and new one started, but the length of stone is shorter. Centre stope:The stone going north is gradually cutting out, and it looks at present as if the new make of stone going into the hanging wall will take its place. No. 5 level: Pistance 19ft. for the week. Total distance now driven is 268 ft. The country rock is changing, and expect to strike reef -track shortly. Twentyfive tons of stone were delivered to the bins for the period.
