REEFTON NOTES

[our own correspondent.] REEFTON, November 13. The monthly meeting of the Reefton District High School Committee was held in the school on Wednesday. Present: Messrs J. Patterson, D. Panckhurst, C. Potter, C. Dobson, C. Cleaver, H. Campbell (secretary) and Mr. F. S. Hayes (headmaster). Mr. J. Patterson presided. Mr. W. B. Auld, (chairman), wrote resigning from the committee owing to ill health. Mrs. Mitchell wrote resigning as caretaker as from 31/1/37. The Headmaster’s report stated: — The school hall is being used for the University and Education Department Examinations. The Proficiency Examination will be held on November 27. The Education Board’s architect has authorised the replacement of broken pans in lavatory. I have ordered 4 lbs. cane for handwork classes and have been in touch with Messrs Armstrong and Springhall in regard to some repairs to the typewriters.

Proposed by Mr Paterson, seconded by Mr. Panckhurst, that the resignation of Mi’ W. B. Auld be accepted with regret and that a minute of appreciation be recorded to Mr. Auld for his untiring and valuable services as member and chairman of the committee over a period of many years.—Carried. On the motion of Mr. Cleaver, seconded by Mr. Potter, Mr. J. Patterson was appointed as chairman. Mr. C. Cleaver was duly appointed as Treasurer and Mr. W. J. Duff to the vacancy on the committee. The matter of the annual excursion was then discussed when it was decided to hold the annual excursion to Greymouth on Wednesday, February 3, 1937.

The resignation of Mrs. Mitchell as caretaker was accepted and complete satisfaction expressed by all for the manner in which Mrs. Mitchell had carried out her duties for the number of years she had been the caretaker. The secretary was authorised, to advertise for applicants for the position as caretaker on present conditions. The action of the Headmaster in regard to ordering of handwork material and repairs to typewriters was approved. The visiting committee for the ensuing month to be Messrs C. Cleaver and C. Potter.
