MESSAGE FROM QUEEN MARY

WELLINGTON, November 12. The following message, personally sent to her by Queen Mary, was read at a meeting of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Womens Institutes, by Mrs. Alfred Watt, the president of the Associated Country Women of the World.

“J would like to take this opportunity of sending to one and all a word of greeting and congratulation on the good work they have done. 1 take a great interest in the movement, not only In Great Britain but throughout the Empire. 1 am well aware how much the institutes have already done toward improving conditions for women in rural areas, how they have made for better citizenship, happier homes, and good neighbourliness, I hope this spirit of mutual help and goodwill will be extended to country women of all lands, for wherever country women are organised they work for a great human cause along paths of true progress. I would like to add that I am much interested in the Women's Institute at Sandringham, and attend the afternoons as often as I can. It makes a nice meeting place for everybody. The Women’s Institute movement should prove a fresh and valuable link between all parts and peoples of the Empire, and I hope, ultimately, between all parts of the world. MARY R.” September, 1936. Mrs. W. Deans (Canterbury), the Dominion president, thanked Mrs. Watt, and said they were very proud the Queen had sent this message. She asked Mrs. Watt to assure her Majesty of the deep devotion and respect she had inspired in all the women of the Empire. A loyal message of thanks will be forwarded to her Majesty from the New Zealand Women’s Institutes.
