HOSPITAL TO PAY.

CHRISTCHURCH, October 6.

Damages amounting to £l6O .were awarded by Mr Reid, S.M., to Mrs Caroline Thomas, who claimed £3OO from the North Canterbury Hospital Board.

Mrs Thomas claimed that when a patient in Christchurch Hospital, she was badly burnt through a hot water bottle placed on her thigh while she was unconscious.

The Board had paid £lOO into Court.

INTOXICATED CARRIER. CHRISTCHURCH, October G. A fine of £5O and cancellation of his license for two years was imposed by Mr Levvey, S.M., to-day. on Robert Alexander Johnston, carrier, on a charge of being intoxicated when in charge of a motor truck. Johnston pleaded not guilty. The evidence showed that Johnston’s truck levelled a well lit concrete safety zone, and that he was under the influence of liquor when examined at the Police Station. The defence was that Johnston was suffering from concussion due to the smash. Bad visibility was blamed for the smash.

DIVORCE DECREE ANNULLED

AUCKLAND, October 6.

A decree nisi made by the Court on February 27 last, was annulled, this morning, by Mr Justice Johnston, and the petition was dismissed. The parties were Martin Billich White and Mary Georgia Billich White, and a decree was granted in February, on the petition of the husband, on the ground of the wife’s failure to comply with an order for restitution.

Subsequently, the Solicitor-General intervened', and this morning was represented by Mr V. R. Meredith, who said that the facts were admitted, and it was unnecessary to call evidence. He added that, in view of the fact that an agreement of separation, then in existence, was not placed before the Court, the decree nisi mujst go. His Honor said that he understood the facts. The decree was annulled.
