NATIONAL SPORT COUNCIL
MINISTER’S PROPOSAL.
[per press association.]
ROTORUA, September 14.
Expressing the hope that he -would be instrumental in forming a National Council of Sport, a body which would endeavour to achieve a greater measure of co-ordination among the various sporting bodies, the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr. Parry), replying to the toast in his honour at a dinner at Rotorua, said he hoped to see the day when certain days would be set aside for various sports, in order to avoid the jostling which took place at present. He added that it would be his aim, and that of the Government, to promote the growth of healthy sport of all kinds.
Mr. Parry, on Sunday afternoon, visited Rotoiti, where he presented a special flag to two sub-tribes of the Te Arawa. The flag was a gift from the Notive Minister (Mr. Savage), and was intended to replace the old flag given these two tribes by the Government many years ago. Mr. Perry also read a goodwill message from Mr. Savage to the Maori race.
