320-FT. BRIDGE MOVED BODILY

CARRIED ON ROLLERS

MOSCOW, May 26

A rivited steel bridge, weighing 1,000 tons, and more than 320 ft long, was moved bodily 165 ft downstream over Moscow’s river to-day. The bridge, known as the Crimean bridge, was jacked up twenty-two and a half inches, and hauled over steel rollers along girders resting on three long wooden trestlepiers. Hauling was done by four handoperated winches with another four acting as brakes. The delicacy of the work consisted in keeping an equal pull on the winches to avoid the bridge cracking. In its new position the bridge will serve as a. temporary crossing for trams, motor-cars, and foot passengers until a new and wider bridge has been built on the old site.
