RIDE TO LONDON
MELBOURNE MAN’S PLAN MELBOURNE, July 16. Mr. R. M. Reid, formerly warrantofficer in the permanent forces, intends to ride on horseback from Melbourne to London in 300 days, and reach there in time for the Coronation. He hopes to leave Melbourne dp July 31, and reach Darwin by way of Alice Springs to catch the Merkur for Singapore on October 20.
Mr. Reid will travel 14,266 miles, riding horseback all the way except the sea stretches between Darwin and Singapore and between Amsterdam and Dover. If he succeeds he will,/bring to Australia the world’s record horse ride, which is now held by an American, who rode 8000 miles from Nome, in Alaska, to South America.
' Mn Reid intends to use only one horse (three were used by the American), and his animal will be chosen by the .Australian Horsebreeders’ Association.
