I Meanwhile forty or fifty unemployjed in the central lobby of the House, who had been interviewing Members of .the House of Commons, started a chorus, “Down With the Means Test!” The police appeared and shepherded the unemployed outside. The closure was carried bv 371 votes to 163. I he Labour members' amendments to the Government proposals were do-1 feated by 368 to IG3, and bv 36] ioi 140. j The new regulations wore approved by 357 votes to 155. The House rose after midnight, having been sitting for over thirty-two hours.
