200 GIRLS APPLY FOR POST
ADELAIDE, July 13
A recent advertisement for an active. bright young lady as “sitter” in a, centenary barrow endurance -test brought 200 applications. Air. A. Alexander, of King William-street, Adelaide, has chosen Miss Mabel Smith, a 17-year-old girl, of Henley Beach, by drawing one loiter from the large bundle. Mr. Alexander, who pushed a barrow to Mount Lofty last year, has accepted a. wager of £2O to nothing that he could not push a barrow containing 15 stone deadweight to thesummit of Mount. Lofty in one day. He decided to advertise for a girl, and to make up the extra weight with lead. The wager will be decided on August 1, when lie will leave the G.P.0., Adelaide, at 7 a.m., and expects to arrive at his destination by 3 p.m. If he succeeds, he intends to apply to the Centenary Council and challenge the man who held a similar test to Mount. Buffalo to an endurance test as a centenary event.
