BLACKBALL NOTES
[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
To celebrate the second birthday of the launching of the Worksop dredge, a representative gathering of shareholders and directors met at the dredge yesterday. Mr. D. McVicar, in proposing the toast of the dredge, complimented the workmen on the efficiency they had displayed in handling the dredge. In the two years of working the dredge had won 4,226 ounces of gold, the weekly average being 50 ounces, and the company had started off with a £2,000 debt. The smash to the engine had cost two months of working time, and it had been costly to fix the engine. Despite-this they had paid out £9,600 in dividends, representing 60 per cent, of the capital, and another possible dividend will be passed at the next meeting. The life of the dredging ground should be well over another 12 years, and the ground to be worked should prove payable. Mrs. McGregor, wife of one of the directors, cut the birthday cake, which was beautifully iced and inscribed with “Many happy and good returns of the day. Worksop.’ Mr. N. Curnow, on behalf of the employees, suitably responded. Miss Jean Driscoll, who recently underwent an operation at the Grey Hospital, has returned home. Mrs. D. Kelly, who has been on a holiday visit to Stockton, has returned. Mr. W. Kirk has entered the Grey Hospital for treatment. Ow.". ' > -- "ge number of men getting on the Brunner track, Rough River and Blackball mine, Blackball is now free of unemployment.
