An Arbitration Court judgment extends the hours beyond 40 a week in the lime industry. Those producing burnt lime to 44 all the year, and those producing carbonate lime 4-1 during the busy half of the year, and 40 in the slack six months, the periods to be according to the- needs of the particular districts. The Inspector of Awards is to be notified by the employers of the period each selects.

WELLINGTON, July 23. Mr Savage said, to-day, that within a fortnight the Government would be making a start building homes at Miramar and in the Hutt Valley, as well as in other centres of the Dominion. Plans were practically completed and the people in need of homes could look with confidence to having their hopes realised within the near future. The housing scheme would bo prosecuted energetically, but the Government would also give every assistance to the man who wanted to build his own house. The Government was anxious to secure the co-operation of local bodies, and Tie saw no reason why it should not be forthcoming.
