SUICIDE TO PAY DEBT
CHEQUES DRAWN ON INSURANCE
Because he owed his creditors £ 1,600, which he was unable to pay, M. Castello, a wholesale fruit dealer, well known at the Paris Central Markets, recently committed suicide. After drawing cheques for the amount of the debts ho wrote to his bankers as follows: "I always toid you that I was an honest man. and 1 have no hesitation in sacrificing niy, life to retain your esteem and that of my creditors." His debts, he added, were to be met our, of his life insurance, the policy of which contained a clause covering suicide.
