SURPRISE’ FOR MOTHER

TORQUAY, June 1

A boy of four and his sister aged 10. w ']•(• killed whe.n (hey fell over a cliff at Bai'l'acombe to-night. The girl lost her life trying to save her brother, who had slipped when walking on the cliff

The children were Peter and Kathleen Peggy Woodmore, son ami daughter of Mi', and Mrs. J. Woodmore, of Hole-road. St. Mary Church. Torquay. 'they were returning with their brother ami sister from watching a P,oy Scout rally when the tragedy occured.

When the oilier children returned io their home the mother asked Tony, who is five, where his brother and sister were. He said that, Joyce, his nine-year-old sister, would tell her. Joyce said to her mother, “Guess where they arc. You will be surprised when I tell you, mother.” The mother asked: "Where are they?’

"They fell into the water and were drowned.” said Joyce.

Joyce added that they had chosen to walk homo round the rocks. They wire about 50ft up when Peter slipped ami Kathleen grabbed him and fell too.

As they struck the water, Joyce said she saw that Kathleen was still holding Peter's arm and seemed to be trying to take hold of his other arm. Kathleen also appeared to be ca'ling for help.

This was the second tragedy in the family. A girl, aged 9, was killed by a lorry two years ago outside her home.
